On March 3, 2021, following Gov. Greg Abbott’s executive order GA-34, the TEA released guidance on practices to mitigate the likelihood of COVID-19 spread in schools. Schools must require every student, teacher, or staff member to wear a mask over the nose and mouth in a variety of locations and circumstances. The guidance provides for certain limited exceptions to the mask-wearing requirement. Notably, the governing board of a school system may modify or eliminate by formal action the TEA’s mask-related requirements. Additionally, parents and other adults who visit a school must follow virus prevention and mitigation requirements of the school.
Thompson & Horton will continue to closely monitor any updates to the TEA’s March 3, 2021 guidance on mask-related and other mitigation requirements.
