About Kaitlyn Porter

Kaitlyn brings her love for learning and passion for education advocacy to her work at Thompson & Horton. Given her experiences in and out of the classroom, Kaitlyn is eager to support the mission of Texas education systems.
As a student, Kaitlyn thrived because of Texas school choice. She attended Christian school, traditional homeschool, and virtual charter school. During high school, Kaitlyn volunteered with a class of preschool and kindergarten aged students. In her senior year of high school, she began volunteering with an education advocacy group. Her advocacy work took her to the Texas Capitol where she testified twice before the Texas House of Representatives Committee on Public Education.
Her love for teaching and learning inspired her to attend the University of Houston-Clear Lake where she studied Elementary Education. She obtained additional certification in teaching students who acquire English as a second language. While in college, Kaitlyn completed her student teaching with a second-grade class. Her experience as an online student aided her in meeting student needs as she taught both online and brick-and-mortar students. She maintains her teaching certifications and is currently certified to teach students in early childhood through sixth grade.
Kaitlyn’s desire to advocate on behalf of schools led her to Baylor University School of Law where she served as the Senior Notes and Comments Editor for the Baylor Law Review. During law school, she interned at a policy foundation and worked as a research assistant for her family law professor.
The experiences of Kaitlyn’s family members who work in education and her own experience ignited her passion for supporting Texas education by practicing school law.
