Kaylan is a zealous advocate for public education with experience as a teacher, central staff administrator, and education advocacy director. Kaylan has dedicated her professional career to ensuring students, educators, and schools thrive.
After graduating from Fisk University, Kaylan joined Teach for America and taught early childhood education in the Dallas Independent School District for five years. She would continue her career in Dallas ISD as teacher excellence initiative facilitator and lead instructional specialist. Her passion for education policy led her to become the Dallas County Director for Raise your Hand Texas-an education policy and advocacy nonprofit organization. Kaylan holds a master’s degree in education administration from Lamar University and juris doctor from University of North Texas -Dallas.
Kaylan serves on the board of March to the Polls and local advisory council for Urban Teachers. She is a member of the Texas Association of Black School Educators (TABSE), Texas Association for Bilingual Education (TABE), many regional PTAs, and local chambers of commerce.
Although she is dedicated to advancing education and supporting districts, her most important job is being a wife and mother of two children.
