About Mark Huffman
Legal Assistant: Mandy Davenport | 972-597-7958 | adavenport@thompsonhorton.com
Mark represents educational institutions in a broad range of education law matters, including governance, policy development, internal investigations, employment and student issues, administrative proceedings, litigation, and appeals. He also advises businesses and individuals in complex commercial litigation, construction disputes, and other insurance defense and general civil litigation matters.
Before joining Thompson & Horton, Mark served as in-house counsel for one of the largest public school districts in Texas, where he provided strategic legal counsel on the full spectrum of issues affecting public education. His practice included employment law, student and employee grievances, special education, contract drafting and negotiation, compliance with the Texas Public Information Act and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and day-to-day legal guidance for district leadership. His firsthand experience advising a public school district gives him a practical understanding of the legal and operational challenges educational institutions face and enables him to deliver solutions that are both legally sound and operationally effective.
Earlier in his career, Mark practiced at a Texas-based law firm, where he represented individuals, businesses, and corporate clients in a wide variety of complex civil litigation matters, including commercial and business disputes, products liability, premises liability, construction litigation, and insurance defense. That litigation experience informs his proactive approach to counseling clients, helping them manage risk while positioning them for successful outcomes when disputes arise.
A proud Double Deacon, Mark earned both his Bachelor’s degree and Juris Doctorate from Wake Forest University. In his time before law school, Mark was a Teach for America corps member, where he taught middle school math in Huntsville, Alabama. His experience in the classroom provides valuable perspective in his representation of schools and educational institutions, reinforcing his commitment to helping clients navigate the unique legal issues facing the education community.
