Phillip’s broad range of professional experience in education informs his advocacy as a lawyer today.

Before law school, Phillip spent about four years as a higher education journalist at a Texas newspaper. He wrote about a variety of issues, including Title IX, board governance, litigation, and the many shifting landscapes surrounding higher education. Phillip then worked in the marketing office of a community college, where he communicated the countless benefits of higher education to a variety of audiences. Through these experiences, Phillip developed a keen sense of how higher education works and how colleges can implement best practices to keep their campuses thriving.

Phillip earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism from Baylor University. He later graduated in the top 10 percent of his class from St. Mary’s University School of Law. He served as Solicitations & Articles Editor on the St. Mary’s Law Journal Editorial Board. He also served as a research assistant for a professor whose work focuses on wills, estates, and trusts.

After law school, Phillip served as a judicial law clerk for U.S. Magistrate Judge Andrew M. Edison of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas, Galveston Division.

Phillip is an associate in the Houston office of Thompson & Horton LLP. His work on behalf of public school districts and colleges includes issues such as Title IX, special investigations, labor and employment issues, and litigation.
